Darlene Strand – Biography
After retiring from an active career in the field of education, Darlene began her art career by walking with her dog in the beautiful woods of the Upper Peninsula. Feeling the need to capture the images she saw with her camera, the resulting photos quickly inspired her to draw and paint. Travel gave her additional inspiration. Workshops and art classes provided the technical information she needed and introduced her to artists who became good friends. She found herself actively involved in kayaking, hiking, becoming a strong outdoor woman, and feeling more confident. It felt great to be connected to her artistic center. This is how she was led toward becoming involved in Art Works.
Her media use is varied including photography, watercolor, graphite and colored pencil drawing, pastel chalk paintings, and batik. Recently, she has been experimenting with pastels and resin. Quilting and gardening are also passions. Darlene never wants to stop learning and hopes to remain eager to try new things. Her business card lists her studio as “Art Play”.
